Industrial projects are generally executed in a phased approach. Each phase aims at reaching a higher level of detail.
The deliverable of the first initiating phases of a project is usually a scope defining document. Before entering into a next phase a gate-review will be held. During this gate-review the feasibility (costs versus revenues) and the risks of a project are evaluated, resulting in a go/no-go decision. As a result of the gate-review additional requirements for the end-product may be defined.

The Concept Development Services are focusing on the initiating stages of a project. All expertise is available within Royal Haskoning to provide the client with the full range of services required to transform e.g. an idea or an Authority Requirement into a fully developed concept. After development of the concept Royal Haskoning can also provide all services to implement the project.

For the development of such concept Royal Haskoning has a broad range of specialists available. Our in-house expertise comprise all consulting and engineering disciplines (Civil, Process, Piping, Mechaniclal, Electrical, Instrumentation) but also all other expertise, which may be required for successful project execution (such as: Environmental Permitting, Environmental Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Sustainable Technology, Spatial Development, Architecture, Water Management, Waste treatment, etc etc.).

In each stage of the project estimates of the total project costs will be prepared. The accuracy of these estimates will increase from typically +/-40% at project initiation to +/- 10% at the end of the basic engineering.
To support the decision making during the gate reviews, benchmarking (e.g. IPA, PDRI) can be performed.
